Suggested Teaching/Learning Activities
- Following a discussion about the information contained in the Transport Fact Sheet, students conduct a survey of transport and greenhouse gas emissions by individually completing the Student Transport Survey, then totalling the whole class results.
- Students calculate the class average for weekly greenhouse gas emissions.
- Students calculate the school's greenhouse gas emissions on a weekly and annual basis.
- Extension - students compare school greenhouse gas emissions from transport with other figures, eg. Data from a School Energy Audit.
- In class, students discuss and develop a plan to use alternative forms of transport and minimise fuel consumption.
Teacher Notes:
As students proceed through the greenhouse gas conversions, you could question why there is a difference in emission rates, eg. buses compared with ferries.
