Overview

Transport to and from school has a significant environmental impact in the form of greenhouse gas emissions. Schools can minimise these emissions by making moves to adopt more environmentally friendly modes of transport. Environmentally friendly transport includes public transport, walking, cycling and carpooling.

The benefits of adopting more sustainable modes of transport aren’t just limited to the environment. Students can also benefit through:

  • improved health and fitness
  • improved road safety awareness
  • more social interaction and independence
  • less traffic congestion around schools
